CDA hardball cricket success

On Monday 16th June, the supremely talented Connor Downs Academy hardball cricket team attended the Regional Under 11 Hardball Finals at King’s College, Taunton. After recently winning the Cornwall U11 final vs Truro Prep and therefore representing Cornwall as champions, they faced the winners from Devon, Dorset and Somerset, all of which were private (Prep) schools.

We are delighted to announce that Connor Downs beat both schools from Devon and Dorset, and narrowly missed out on beating the famously sporty Millfield Prep, from Somerset, finishing a fantastic 2nd place.

Chris Twort, regional and national organiser of the tournament, said: "It was an absolute pleasure to welcome the Connor Downs Academy Cricket team to the Regional Hardball Finals at King’s College in Taunton. Not only did they distinguish themselves by defeating two Prep schools from Bryanston and Mount Kelly, but their behaviour and conduct on and off the field of play was beyond reproach.  As I’m sure you know, they came runners-up to the redoubtable Millfield Prep but certainly gave them a very tough match.

I’ve been involved in this competition for thirty years and can honestly say that Connor Downs are not only the first state school team to win two matches at this level but are also the most talented state school team I can remember.

Connor Downs Academy is justifiably beyond proud of the team, not only for their incredible talent but also for their exemplary sportsmanship and behaviour. A huge thank you to Mr Marrion who coached the CDA team and all the amazing parents and carers who made the journey to support their children.
