Aspire Girls Football Festival
On Wednesday 18th and Friday 20th June, a total of 583 girls from across the 37 primary academies that comprise Aspire Academy Trust had their chance to shine on the football field as the annual Aspire Girls' Football Festival took place at the Dragon Centre, Bodmin. Both key stages were ably represented and it was definitely hats and suncream at the ready, as the girls took to the pitch to showcase their footie skills to their peers.
The event is organised by James Ross, Sports Specialist at St Breock Primary School and is supported and run on the day by Liam Dart of LJD Coaching. The festival is part of the Aspire Barclays Girls Football School Partnership.
This year, the trust was delighted to receive a donation of £300 from trust approved contractor Waldon Security, to spend on PE and sports equipment. A small part of this money allowed every girl taking part on the day to receive a footie-related giveaway, while the remainder will fund vital equipment required for other key calendar Aspire sporting events.
Waldon Security Service Manager, Rebecca Martin came down to visit on Wednesday and commented, "I am a massive champion of sport, but girls football in particular is my passion and it was lovely to see all the kids smiling and getting stuck in. Hopefully a lot will come away wanting to carry on outside of school after the event today.
"For me sport is more than just fitness, not all kids are academic or social butterflies – sport is a way of building confidence and making friends that will last for many years which is massively important."
The trust remains always incredibly grateful for the support and generosity it receives from the Cornish business community, so thank you Waldons, and thank you to all the adults who make these events possible!
