CEO Andrew Fielder to retire
The Aspire Academy Trust has announced that CEO Andrew Fielder will retire from the Trust at the end of this academic term. Andrew has been Aspire CEO since its inception, following a successful headship at Sandy Hill Academy, an OFSTED Outstanding school who, under Andrew’s vigilant eye, became pioneers of the academy programme in Cornwall.
During his tenure as CEO, the Trust has grown from just three schools, Sandy Hill Academy, Treverbyn Academy and Padstow School, into one of the best-performing multi-academy trusts in the region, with 28 diverse primary academies stretching from Carbis Bay in the west to Bude and Warbstow in the north east.
Jacqui Swain, Chair of the Board, states: “On behalf of the Aspire Board of Trustees, we extend our grateful thanks to Andrew for his exceptional leadership and vision over the past 9 years. His skill in identifying, challenging and tackling the multiple hurdles we face in the education sector has helped define a continuous and robust agenda of reform and improvement. Andrew leaves a resilient Trust fully equipped to face head-on the challenges ahead.”
In order to ensure a seamless transition and stability for its 5,500 children and 1,000 members of staff, the Board has appointed, for the period of one year, Deputy CEO Vanessa Bragg as interim CEO and Rachel Warwick, Director of Academy Improvement, as interim Deputy CEO.
Vanessa Bragg has been with the Aspire Academy Trust since 2013, bringing to the Trust over 15 years’ experience as an Executive Headteacher, guiding and leading a diverse mix of primary schools across the Duchy. She is currently responsible for the development of Aspire's 28th academy, Nansledan School, the first new-build free school in Cornwall, which opens this September.
Vanessa said: “It’s a privilege to be appointed interim CDO, leading a truly inspirational and aspirational educational trust, full of hugely talented people. I’d like to extend my gratitude to Andrew for his remarkable leadership of the Aspire Academy Trust and wish him all the best in his retirement.”
Rachel Warwick commented, " I am delighted to be asked to become Interim Deputy CEO. I have worked within the Trust for many years and know what an exciting place it is and what a great team of people we have. I feel tremendously lucky to have worked under the fantastic leadership of Andrew Fielder."
The Board will continue to offer their full support to Vanessa and Rachel in their new roles and will confirm future plans of succession in due course.
